Turkey's May electricity generation falls 4.9%

According to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority's May sector report, licensed electricity production in Turkey was 23,939,965 MWh, a 4.91% drop from the same month last year. Hydroelectric plants supplied 48.89% of this output, followed by natural gas (12.48%), lignite (11.88%), wind (9.86%), imported coal (4.54%) and geothermal (4.12%).

Billed electricity consumption in May fell 7.77% year‑on‑year to 20,909,586 MWh, with industry accounting for 42% of use, residential 26.94% and public/combined services 26.79%. Lighting represented 1.87% and agricultural activities 2.41% of the total.

The number of electricity customers rose 2.51% to 52,408,049, and the total licensed installed capacity increased 3% to 100,647 MW. The capacity mix now consists of about 24.44% natural‑gas, 23.71% reservoir hydro, 14.79% wind, 10.39% imported coal and 10.16% lignite, with the remainder from other sources.
