Turkey Ministry of National Education announces 2026-2027 school year rules
The Turkish Ministry of National Education has released the 2026-2027 academic calendar, confirming that schools will open on September 14, 2026. The new term introduces several significant regulations, including a ban on mobile phone use during lessons for both students and teachers to improve focus. Additionally, a new appointment system will require parents to make appointments before meeting with teachers, and school security measures will be tightened.
Communication protocols are also changing, with the Ministry restricting the use of external messaging apps like WhatsApp for official school business, such as student tracking and announcements, in favor of official government channels. This move aims to protect personal data and prevent misinformation.
Regarding personnel, the Ministry has announced a schedule for the reassignment of school administrators, starting August 24, 2026. Meanwhile, teacher unions are raising concerns regarding delayed appointment schedules for those eligible for additional hardship transfers. There are also ongoing discussions regarding the employment status and wages of thousands of substitute teachers and instructors.
