Turkey's Ministry of Finance uses AI to detect 2 billion TL in spending risks

Turkey's Ministry of Treasury and Finance has implemented a new AI-supported accounting and advanced analytics project to increase transparency and fiscal discipline. The initiative, which utilizes the Integrated Public Financial Management Information System (BKMYBS), is designed to analyze public spending, identify risks in advance, and support data-driven decision-making.

Since its implementation, the system has identified over 2 billion Turkish Liras in public expenditures at risk of inefficiency. The platform serves 497 public administrations, 4,000 accounting units, and approximately 400,000 users. It processes roughly 150 million accounting records, 18 million payment orders, and 10 million e-invoices annually.

In addition to fiscal benefits, the project has yielded environmental advantages. For the 2025-2026 period, the transition to digital processes is expected to save approximately 200 million sheets of paper and prevent the emission of about 5,000 tons of carbon.
