Turkey's National Security Council issues 8‑point statement on counter‑terrorism and regional stability

On 6 August 2026 the Turkish National Security Council (MGK), chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, met at the Presidential Complex for about two hours and fifteen minutes. After the session the council released an eight‑point communiqué.

The statement highlighted ongoing operations against the PKK/KCK‑PYD/YPG, the FETÖ network and ISIS (DAESH) both inside Turkey and abroad, and said progress had been made toward the “terror‑free Turkey” and “terror‑free region” goals. It marked the 10th anniversary of the 15 July 2016 coup attempt, reaffirming that measures to completely dismantle FETÖ would continue.

The communiqué praised the NATO summit hosted by Turkey as a critical milestone for the alliance, called on Iran and the United States to avoid further escalation and return to negotiations, and warned that the Russia‑Ukraine war could spread to the Black Sea and Caspian regions, urging all parties to reduce tensions. It also noted cooperation with Syria and Iraq on security matters and referenced the Gaza peace plan, condemning continued cease‑fire violations by Israel.
