Turkey's Nemrut Caldera sees surge of domestic and foreign tourists over weekend

Nemrut Caldera, the largest crater lake in Turkey and the world's second‑largest, lies between the districts of Ahlat, Güroymak and Tatvan in Bitlis province. Over the recent weekend the site welcomed hundreds of visitors, including Turkish tourists from Istanbul and Çanakkale and an international group from France. Visitors praised the caldera's hot and cold lakes, steam vents, ice caves and panoramic views that connect to nearby features such as Van Lake and Süphan Mountain. The attraction, situated at 2,250 m altitude, recently received the European Destination Excellence (EDEN) "Excellence" award, boosting its profile as a key summer destination for Bitlis tourism.
