Turkish municipalities expand fire and disaster preparedness training

The Selçuklu Municipality in Konya organized a hands‑on fire‑fighting course for its staff, covering fire types, causes, extinguishing techniques and emergency procedures. The training was led by an expert from the Konya Metropolitan Fire Department and was praised by Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı, who said preparedness "saves lives."

In Hatay, municipal teams from Belen and Reyhanlı, together with Mustafa Kemal University, received basic fire‑safety instruction that combined theory with practical drills on equipment use and evacuation.

Ankara’s Metropolitan Municipality added 80 new fire‑tanker units to its rural fleet, raising the total to 746, and conducted on‑site training for more than 2,500 villagers on tanker operation and initial fire response.

The Niğde Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) completed a five‑day intensive volunteer program, teaching participants search‑and‑rescue, logistics, fire awareness and shelter construction.

Nevşehir’s AFAD office also held fire‑awareness and tent‑building workshops for hotel staff and youth camp participants, aiming to spread disaster‑culture across the region. All these initiatives seek to improve emergency response capacity and reduce loss of life and property.
