Turkey's Parliament Debates Amnesty for PKK and Prisoners

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey is reviewing a draft "çerçeve yasa" that would extend amnesty to members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and to certain criminal offenders. Lawmakers argue the proposal could legalise pardons for individuals linked to a designated terrorist organization, while supporters claim it may aid social reconciliation.

In Eskişehir, families of inmates gathered outside the courthouse demanding that the same law treat all prisoners equally. One protester, Nalan Ateş, said, "Biz anneler, çocuklarımızın yeniden hayata tutunmasını istiyoruz," and warned that giving priority to the PKK would be unjust. Another speaker, Emel Sağlam, called the measure "Erdoğan Affı" and urged the parliament to remember the suffering of families whose children have spent years behind bars.

The debate highlights a clash between security concerns, calls for justice reform, and the political sensitivities surrounding the PKK conflict.
