Turkey marks Kurban Bayramı with official messages, bustling livestock markets and slaughter safety guidance

Turkish authorities used the Eid al‑Adha holiday to stress unity and solidarity. Governor İbrahim Taşyapan addressed residents of Hakkâri, urging safe travel and praising communal values, while MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli highlighted the festival’s role in fostering brotherhood and reaffirmed Turkey’s diplomatic commitment to peace in the Islamic world.

Across the country, live‑animal markets saw heightened activity as the holiday approached. In Bingöl, about 1,500 small ruminants were offered, with prices ranging from 15,000 to 35,000 lira for sheep and 100,000 to 300,000 lira for cattle. Similar demand surged in Bayburt, where cattle sold for 100,000‑350,000 lira and sheep for 20,000‑35,000 lira, and in Muş, where prices started at 20,000 lira. Vendors reported strong sales and noted that buyers were negotiating to fit budgets.

In Kocaeli, families visited cemeteries early on the holiday’s eve, offering prayers and flowers, while municipal teams prepared the grounds and provided refreshments for visitors. Meanwhile, the Düzce Veterinary Chamber issued detailed slaughter guidelines, recommending no feed for six hours before the cut, emphasizing cool‑hour processing, and outlining proper meat storage to prevent bacterial growth.
