Turkey's BES fund assets surpass 2.4 trillion lira
The Turkish Individual Retirement System (BES) now counts 487,118 participants who have met the contribution and age requirements, allowing them to draw on their accumulated savings alongside their SGK pension. As of the first half of 2026, total assets in the BES pool exceeded 2.4 trillion lira, with children's accounts alone holding more than 100 billion lira.
Weekly fund performance showed strong gains, with the RE‑PIE Portfolio Third Equity Free Fund delivering a 29.70% return, followed by the RE‑PIE Portfolio Second Equity Free Fund at 29.17%. Variable and gold‑linked BES funds also posted modest weekly gains of around 1.9% and 1.2%, while some index‑weighted funds recorded declines of up to 4.4%. An example cited by an insurance trainer indicated that a BES balance of over 3 million lira could generate monthly payments exceeding 30,000 lira under a ten‑year payout plan.
These figures illustrate the rapid growth of BES as a supplementary income source for retirees and a long‑term savings vehicle for families, with increasing participation across both adult and child accounts.
