Turkey's renewable energy output hits record as government targets $80 bn investment

Turkey’s electricity grid recorded a historic rise in renewable generation in March, producing 19.46 billion kWh – about 65 % of total output. Hydropower contributed the most with 35.4 % (10.6 billion kWh), followed by wind (3.67 billion kWh) and solar (3.24 billion kWh). Installed capacity topped 125 GW, with renewable sources accounting for 62.4 % (78 GW). Solar capacity alone reached 26.5 GW, representing 21 % of the system, while wind stood at 15 GW.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced an $80 billion investment goal for Turkey’s energy transition, highlighting that solar power is expected to become the largest single source by year‑end. He called on German investors at the Turkish‑German Energy Forum in Ankara, emphasizing joint energy security and deeper bilateral cooperation.
