Turkey's retirees and civil servants push for larger July salary hikes
Representatives of Turkey's retired community, led by Orhan Oruç of the Nazilli branch of the Turkey Retirees Association, are demanding that July salary increases for pensioners include a minimum raise of 10,000 TL. Oruç argues that official inflation figures underestimate real price growth and that the calculation method for pension adjustments leaves many retirees unable to meet basic living costs. He calls for the implementation of an “intibak” law to protect future pensioners, urges clearer information on the pending Retiree Card benefits, and notes the association’s provision of low‑cost fuel and wood to members.
Economic analysts using the Central Bank’s participant survey project that, based on June inflation expectations, pension increases could range from 16.61 % for SSK and Bağ‑Kurs retirees to 12.41 % for civil servants, with potential rises up to 18.19 % and 13.93 % respectively if inflation remains at forecast levels. The lowest pension might climb to about 23,638 TL, while the minimum civil servant salary could reach roughly 70,511 TL. Final adjustment rates will be confirmed after the Turkish Statistical Institute releases June’s inflation data.
Millions of public‑sector workers and retirees are awaiting the official announcement, as the anticipated wage hikes are expected to directly affect household incomes for the remainder of the year.
