Turkey's solar and wind capacity exceeds 40,000 megawatts

Turkey's solar and wind installed capacity has surpassed 40,000 megawatts, according to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar. This milestone represents one-third of the nation's goal to reach 120,000 megawatts of solar and wind capacity by 2035.

As of late January, Turkey's total installed electricity capacity reached 123,284 megawatts. Renewable energy accounts for 62.5% of this total, amounting to 77,114 megawatts. Specifically, solar power contributes 25,827 megawatts (20.9%), while wind power provides 14,862 megawatts (12.1%).

Speaking at the 25th World Petroleum Council Energy Congress in Riyadh, Minister Bayraktar emphasized the need for global action regarding energy security and climate change. He noted that rising electricity demand is being driven by factors such as AI-supported data centers, electric transportation, and desalination needs. He highlighted that Turkey is continuing investments to meet this demand and reduce dependence on energy imports as part of its 2053 net-zero emission target.
