Turkey's SPK extends short‑selling ban on Borsa Istanbul to June 2026
The Capital Markets Board of Turkey (SPK) announced that the prohibition on short‑selling in Borsa İstanbul’s equity market will remain in force until the close of the trading session on 26 June 2026. The extension follows a previous decision dated 30 May 2026 (bulletin 33/993) and is part of measures aimed at curbing market volatility and protecting investors.
In addition to the short‑selling ban, SPK confirmed that the existing flexibility on the equity‑ratio requirement for leveraged capital‑market operations will also be maintained until the same date. Both steps are intended to keep liquidity while limiting speculative pressure on stock prices.
