Turkey's ÖSYM Faces Lawsuit Over AYT Math Question 23
A university applicant from Sakarya, Doruk Kerem Atam, filed a lawsuit in an administrative court seeking the cancellation of question 23 in the AYT Mathematics section of the 2026 YKS exam. The suit follows ÖSYM’s post‑exam adjustment that changed the correct answer for the question from option C to option A, a move that candidates deem unfair.
ÖSYM also announced the cancellation of a different question (question 20) in the Turkish Language and Social Sciences test. The court is expected to request a defense from ÖSYM, appoint an academic expert panel to evaluate the technical aspects, and issue a final decision within about 15 days after the expert report. ÖSYM has indicated that it has prepared the technical infrastructure to recalculate scores and update rankings should the court order the question’s cancellation. Thousands of candidates and their families are awaiting the court’s ruling, which could set a precedent for handling future exam disputes.
