Turkey's top university ranking places METU first, Karabük University rises

The international ranking platform Uniranks released a new index of Turkey’s 20 leading higher‑education institutions. Middle East Technical University (METU) topped the list with 84.71 points, followed by Istanbul Technical University (ITU) at 84.31 and Hacettepe University at 83.67. METU and ITU earned the platform’s highest "UR ELITE" quality status, the only Turkish universities to receive the distinction.

Karabük University (KBÜ) also highlighted its progress across multiple global rankings. In the URAP 2025‑2026 World University Ranking it ranked 33rd among Turkish state universities and 39th overall. SCImago data showed a 54‑position rise in Turkey, placing KBÜ 167th worldwide in aerospace engineering. The 2024 Shanghai Ranking listed its Mechanical Engineering program as second in Turkey. In the QS Europe 2026 ranking the university reached 35th nationally, while Webometrics placed it 36th in Turkey and 1,475th globally. KBÜ’s achievements were noted during the YKS university admissions period as a draw for prospective students.
