Turkey's tourism sector hit by illegal hotel construction in Antalya and calls for investment in Ardahan

In Kemer district of Antalya, construction of a hotel on the former Club Med site continued through the peak tourism season despite a government ban that restricts building activities between May 15 and October 15. Local officials recorded three municipal minutes documenting the violation, and authorities claim the work is being carried out with a special permit from the Tourism Ministry. Coordination with provincial governorates has been highlighted, pointing to broader concerns over enforcement of the seasonal construction ban.

Separately, tourism ambassador and businessman Alihan Akkoç visited his hometown of Ardahan, urging increased investment to capitalize on local festivals such as the Kaşar Festival and Canibeg Yayla Şenliği. He praised Mayor Faruk Demir for infrastructure work but warned that youth outmigration threatens the town’s future, calling for jobs and projects to retain the population. Akkoç also noted ongoing large‑scale tourism investments in Istanbul, underscoring the contrast between national growth and regional challenges.
