Turkey's Trade Ministry fines chain supermarket for checkout‑shelf price mismatch

Turkish authorities have intensified checks on price consistency in chain supermarkets. In Istanbul, a consumer reported that the price displayed at checkout differed from the shelf label at a major chain store. The Ministry of Trade inspected the outlet, identified four products with checkout‑shelf price discrepancies and five products lacking any price tags, and imposed an administrative fine under consumer‑protection law. Meanwhile, the Şırnak provincial Agriculture and Forestry Directorate conducted a systematic price‑monitoring operation in local chain markets under the TUFİS system, recording agricultural and food product prices to keep market data current and monitor the balance between producer and consumer prices. Both actions demonstrate governmental efforts to enforce fair pricing and protect consumers.
