Turkey's wind capacity to hit 2.5 GW by year‑end, GWEC chief says

Global Wind Energy Council CEO Ben Backwell said Turkey added 2.1 GW of wind power to its electricity system last year and is on track to reach 2.5 GW by the end of this year. He noted a longer‑term ambition of about 7 GW of installed wind capacity.

Backwell highlighted Turkey’s growing role as a regional “green energy corridor” between Europe and Asia, citing its expanding manufacturing base and exports of wind‑turbine equipment to roughly 40‑50 countries. He also mentioned Turkey’s cooperation with COP31 preparations and the need for investment in grid infrastructure to overcome current bottlenecks.

The statements come amid a wider global shift away from fossil fuels, with Backwell describing the transition as a pivotal moment for the world energy system.
