Turkey's YKS exam faces investigation over alleged faulty questions

Millions of candidates taking Turkey's university entrance exam (YKS) raised concerns after two questions were flagged as potentially flawed. One question in the Turkish Language and Literature test misstated the name of the character "Neriman" from Halide Edib Adıvar's novel "Handan" as "Nermin." The other disputed question was number 23 in the AYT Mathematics test, where some examinees argue that the correct answer should be option A instead of the officially marked option C.

The Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) announced on 21 June that it has opened a formal review of both questions. An independent expert panel will evaluate the complaints, and ÖSYM expects to release its findings by 22 July. No decision to cancel the exam or any of its sections has been made, and the results of the YKS will be published after the review is completed.
