Turkey's YKS university entrance exam faces controversy over alleged faulty questions

Students and educators have raised objections to several questions in Turkey's Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). In the Turkish Language and Literature section, a question about Halide Edib Adıvar's novel incorrectly named the protagonist "Nermin" instead of "Neriman," prompting calls for the item’s cancellation.

In the science component, a biology question about the shared function of xylem and phloem was argued to have two correct answers, leading teachers to demand its removal. A mathematics item involving a derivative graph and the determination of a function’s root interval has also been reported as erroneous and is under review by the exam authority, ÖSYM. The disputes have ignited widespread discussion on social media, with many students awaiting an official response from ÖSYM on whether the contested questions will be revised or annulled.
