YPP Corporation considers $2 billion green energy project in Kazakhstan

South Korea’s YPP Corporation is considering the development of a green hydrogen and ammonia complex in the East Kazakhstan Region. The project is estimated to cost approximately $2 billion.

The facility is expected to utilize around 1 GW of renewable energy, including wind and solar power, to produce up to 55,000 metric tons of green hydrogen and 310,000 metric tons of green ammonia annually. Green ammonia is being developed as a low-carbon fuel and a medium for transporting hydrogen over long distances.

A memorandum regarding the Green Energy Complex project was signed by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy, regional authorities, and YPP. The project aligns with South Korea’s energy strategy to reduce emissions, with plans for clean hydrogen and ammonia to supply 6.2% of its electricity generation by 2038.
