Turkish agricultural regions report productive harvests in rice and sugar beet sectors
Agricultural production is seeing significant activity in various Turkish regions. In Çankırı, the harvest of geographically indicated sarıkılçık rice has begun at the foothills of Mount Ilgaz. This specific rice variety is noted for its unique aroma, derived from being irrigated by the cold waters of Mount Ilgaz, and is described by producers as an ancestral seed with no sugar content, making it suitable for diabetics. Approximately 3,000 decares of land are used for this production, with an expected yield of 1,500 tons of rice.
In Sivas, Hacı Çetindağ, President of the Sivas Chamber of Agriculture, reported high expectations for the sugar beet harvest due to increased rainfall. It is projected that over 800,000 tons of sugar beets will be produced from 125,000 decares of planted land. This production is expected to meet the raw material needs of factories in neighboring provinces, including Malatya, Kayseri, Amasya, Erzincan, and Yozgat. While the abundance of rain has improved quality and yield compared to previous droughts, officials noted that total production could have exceeded 1 million tons if more land had been planted.
