Turkish agriculture reports mixed harvest outlooks for pistachios, grapes, and hazelnuts

Agricultural sectors in various Turkish regions report diverging outlooks for the current harvest season. In the pistachio sector, Ali Çolak of the Şahinbey Chamber of Agriculture warns that adverse weather, including heavy rain and strong winds, has hindered pollination. This has led to concerns regarding lower yields and reduced kernel ratios, while producers face rising costs and price pressures.

In Manisa, the grape industry anticipates a productive season with expected yields between 300,000 and 350,000 tons due to favorable weather. Manisa remains a critical hub, accounting for 85 percent of Turkey's dried raisin exports. However, producers remain cautious regarding potential waste during the drying process.

Meanwhile, the hazelnut industry in Sakarya expects a positive season. Ali Şener Bayraktar reports that improved climate conditions are projected to produce approximately 89,000 tons of hazelnuts, a significant improvement over the previous year's losses caused by frost and pests. The region is also preparing for the arrival of an estimated 17,000 to 20,000 seasonal workers.
