Turkish Airlines announces Asia-Pacific expansion strategy
Turkish Airlines is implementing a strategic expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, aiming to increase flight frequencies in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania by 15-20% in the coming years. Prof. Dr. Murat Şeker, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee, stated that these goals will be supported by the development of the airline's wide-body aircraft fleet.
As part of this strategy, the airline has accelerated capacity increases for China. Weekly flights to China have increased by 10, reaching a total of 42. Plans include launching services to Chengdu in November, with Urumqi also under consideration. The airline is also focusing wide-body passenger and cargo aircraft on markets including Japan, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam.
To compete in the global transfer market, Turkish Airlines intends to establish a ‘second corridor’ through Istanbul. This initiative aims to create new connections between Europe, Africa, and Latin America and the Far East, leveraging long-haul routes to challenge the dominance of Gulf-based carriers.
