Turkish Airlines flight diverted after severe turbulence in Tunisia

A Turkish Airlines flight (TK663) traveling from Istanbul to Tunis encountered severe turbulence and violent storms on September 10, 2026, while attempting to land at Tunis-Carthage International Airport. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, faced deteriorating weather conditions that forced the flight crew to abort three separate landing attempts.

Passengers reported scenes of panic inside the cabin, with many filming the intense shaking and screaming as the plane appeared to lose altitude during the third approach. One passenger, Marina Maiskaya, described the experience as “absolutely terrifying,” noting that the aircraft bucked and swayed violently through the storm.

Due to the hazardous conditions, the crew elected to divert the flight to Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport, located approximately 60 miles south of Tunis. The aircraft landed safely at the alternate airport, and no serious injuries were reported. Following the safe landing, the aircraft eventually resumed its journey to Tunis once weather conditions improved.
