Turkish Airlines orders up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft

Turkish Airlines has finalized a major agreement with Boeing to acquire up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The deal includes 100 firm orders for the 737-8 model and options for an additional 50 aircraft. The agreement also provides the airline with substitution rights to switch some orders to the larger 737-10 variant, allowing for greater operational flexibility based on passenger demand.

The negotiations, which began in 2025, were previously delayed due to disputes with engine supplier CFM International regarding maintenance terms and pricing. The final agreement was signed in New York during the United Nations General Assembly in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope.

The new 737-8 jets are expected to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by approximately 20 percent compared to the aircraft they replace. This acquisition is intended to strengthen Turkish Airlines' short- and medium-haul flight networks and support its long-term fleet expansion strategy. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2033 and 2037.
