Turkey transportation sector reports major passenger growth

Turkey's transportation sector has reported significant growth in both aviation and rail passenger numbers. According to Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Turkish airports served a total of 167,552,966 passengers during the first eight months of the year. Istanbul and Antalya airports were the primary hubs, accounting for 81.7 million passengers combined.

In August alone, total passenger traffic reached 28,794,764, representing a 4.1 percent increase compared to the same month last year. Domestic passenger traffic rose by 6.8 percent, while international traffic saw a 2.7 percent increase. Total air cargo volume for the eight-month period reached approximately 3.59 million tons.

In urban transit, the Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport-Halkalı Metro Line has reached a milestone of 37,150,000 total passengers. The line has recently set consecutive daily records, with passenger counts exceeding 57,000 on September 7 and 8. The 69-kilometer line now operates 145 daily services across 15 stations.

Additionally, Ercan Airport reported that nearly 4 million passengers used the facility in the first eight months of the year, marking an 8.84 percent increase in total passenger traffic compared to the previous year.
