Turkish Ambassador emphasizes peace and dialogue with Greece
Turkish Ambassador to Athens, Çağatay Erciyes, stated during a ceremony marking the 103rd anniversary of the Republic of Turkey that Ankara does not pose a threat to Greece. He emphasized that Turkey seeks peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Erciyes noted that while bilateral relations have seen increased cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, and combating organized crime, there has been no significant progress on outstanding issues, particularly in the Aegean Sea. He highlighted that a specialized dialogue for these matters has not yet commenced.
The Ambassador called for the full utilization of the 2023 Athens Declaration as a framework for resolving differences through substantive dialogue, international law, and the principles of good neighborliness. He also pointed to growing economic and social ties, noting that bilateral trade reached 6.7 billion dollars and citing high numbers of reciprocal tourist visits.
