Turkish and Northern Cyprus Courts Issue Rulings in Spousal Abuse Cases
Turkey's Supreme Court (Yargıtay) overturned a lower‑court decision in a divorce case from Bursa, finding the husband fully at fault for neglecting personal hygiene and other marital duties. The court increased the compensation to a total of 360,000 Turkish lira in material and moral damages awarded to the wife.
In Northern Cyprus, a 50‑year‑old man was detained after being accused of choking his wife during a domestic dispute in Gönyeli. He was also charged with illegal residence in the Turkish‑controlled area and ordered to remain in custody for up to 20 days pending trial.
