Turkish authorities hand down hefty traffic fines and clear abandoned vehicles
Municipal officials in Manisa continued a citywide campaign to remove abandoned cars that mar streets and pose safety risks. Vehicles left on public roads are given a 60‑day notice to be removed; those that remain are towed to a municipal impound lot.
In Karabük, a driver who ignored a police order to stop was fined 492,719 Turkish lira, had his licence temporarily revoked and his car barred from traffic for 60 days. The driver was found to have a blood‑alcohol level of 0.55 ‰ and an expired vehicle inspection.
A separate case in Bilecik saw a 26‑year‑old driver fined a total of 420,743 lira for multiple traffic violations after fleeing a police stop. The driver later died by suicide with an unlicensed firearm.
Another report notes a driver received a fine of 786,000 lira for a traffic offence, underscoring the strict enforcement measures being applied across Turkey.
