Turkish drug raid detains 25, among them singer Mabel Matiz and actress Serenay Sarıkaya

The Bakırköy Public Prosecutor's Office in Turkey launched a large‑scale drug investigation, directing the Istanbul Gendarmerie to raid 25 locations across Beşiktaş, Sarıyer, Beyoğlu, Kağıthane, Üsküdar and Muğla. The operation resulted in the detention of 25 individuals, several of whom are well‑known public figures, including pop singer Mabel Matiz, actress Serenay Sarıkaya, rapper Tan Taşçı, and other entertainers.

Searches uncovered drug‑related items such as cocaine, cannabis products, ecstasy tablets, methamphetamine‑type powder, syringes, scales and paraphernalia. All detainees were taken for health examinations and forensic sampling. Nine were released after testing, while eleven were referred to court. The prosecution has asked for a pre‑trial detention order for Mehmet Rahşan and has sought travel bans for several others, including Aslıhan Turanlı, Berkay Şahin and Volkan Bahçekapılı.

The case is being presented as a major effort to curb drug use and distribution networks that involve high‑profile individuals, and is expected to proceed through the Turkish judicial system.
