Turkey conducts major operations against crime and corruption

Turkey has seen a series of major law enforcement operations targeting various criminal activities across several provinces.

In Bolu, an investigation into vehicle rental tender irregularities at the Bolu Municipality has led to the arrest of Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, Deputy Mayor Gülden Özaydın, and several municipal officials and company representatives. The probe alleges that approximately 34.3 million TL in improper payments were made to a contractor by falsely reporting that garbage collection vehicles were working on days they were not.

In Kayseri and Antalya, authorities dismantled several ‘new generation’ organized crime groups. These groups were accused of using social media to promote violence and crime, committing offenses including attempted murder, kidnapping, and extortion. In Kayseri, 32 suspects were detained in an operation involving 40 addresses.

Additionally, a large-scale fraud operation centered in Tekirdağ targeted 426 victims through fake investment applications promising high returns in crypto and global markets, resulting in 994 million TL in losses. In Ankara, a multi-wave operation targeted networks involved in drug trafficking and prostitution, leading to numerous arrests and the seizure of narcotics.

Other regional reports include drug enforcement results in Diyarbakır and various arrests in Cyprus related to narcotics and smuggling.
