Turkish banking deposits reach 33.7 trillion lira
Turkish banking sector deposits reached approximately 33.7 trillion lira for the week ending August 28. According to data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, total deposits increased by 70.3 billion lira, representing a 0.21 percent rise. Within this total, Turkish Lira-denominated deposits grew by 0.98 percent to 18.48 trillion lira, while foreign currency deposits decreased by 0.75 percent to 11.09 trillion lira.
The total credit volume in the banking sector also saw an increase, rising to 27.28 trillion lira. Consumer loans for domestic residents rose by 1.87 percent, reaching 6.89 trillion lira. This figure includes 826 billion lira in housing loans, 41.7 billion lira in vehicle loans, and 2.57 trillion lira in personal loans, with individual credit card receivables accounting for 3.45 trillion lira.
Additionally, the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) reported that the banking system's legal equity increased to 5.98 trillion lira. However, non-performing loans rose by 5.98 billion lira to reach 844.9 billion lira during the same period.
