Turkish banks launch pensioner cash promotions; Gaziantep University rejects offer

Turkish banks—including İş Bankası, Halkbank and VakıfBank—have announced cash‑promotion campaigns for retirees who move their pension payments to the banks. The schemes provide up to 25,000 TL in bonuses, with amounts tiered by monthly pension size and tied to a three‑year salary‑receiving commitment, plus optional requirements such as automatic bill‑payment instructions or credit‑card usage.

At Gaziantep University, labor unions representing academic and administrative staff have refused the proposed promotion package of 85,000 TL cash plus 20,000 TL point value. The unions argue the offer is far below the expectations of the university’s roughly 5,500 employees and 50,000 students and have warned they will place a legal objection and pursue litigation if the terms are not revised.
