Royad Mammadov grain ship hit by drone in Black Sea

The Turkish grain cargo ship Royad Mammadov was reportedly struck by a drone in the Black Sea on Monday, October 5, 2026. The incident occurred approximately 20 nautical miles off the Romanian coast, near the Pescăruș oil platform.

Following the strike, a fire broke out on board the vessel. The Romanian Naval Authority, via the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Constanța, has confirmed the severity of the situation. The ship's commander is reported to be injured, and 13 crew members are currently missing.

A large-scale search and rescue operation is underway. Romanian authorities have mobilized several vessels, including SAR APOLLO, SAR ARTEMIS, and SAR ARES, along with units from the Coast Guard to locate the missing crew and assess the damage to the vessel.
