Turkish cities advance major tramway projects in Kaykay and Konya
Kayseri is moving forward with the Erkilet Tramway Line, a 13.6‑kilometre route linking the Bülbülpınarı district, the airport and Cumhuriyet Square. The project, estimated at about $500 million (23 billion TL), includes underground stations and a deep‑level stop at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Millet Bahçesi, and is expected to boost public‑transport capacity in the Erkilet area.
In Konya, Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay inspected construction of an elevated tram bridge on Sadık Ahmet Caddesi, part of the second phase of the Stadyum‑Şehir Hastanesi Tram Line. The 124‑metre concrete bridge will separate the tram from road traffic and feature a central platform with elevators for accessibility. When completed, the line will add roughly 21.1 kilometres of tramway, improving connections between the stadium, the city hospital and industrial zones.
Both projects are funded by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure together with local municipalities, reflecting Turkey’s broader push to upgrade urban transit networks.
