Turkish cities implement or face calls for public transport reforms
In Diyarbakır, the Metropolitan Municipality has implemented changes to public transportation routes and vehicle numbers. This follows a cooperation protocol with Dicle University titled ‘Diyarbakır City Center Public Transport Network Optimization’. The adjustments aim to reduce travel times, increase capacity, and alleviate urban traffic through scientific analysis of passenger density and travel durations. Specific revisions were made to lines including B4, Y3, AY, Z4, E11, Z2, E10, Z7, and B3.
In Eskişehir, Faruk Güler has criticized the Metropolitan Municipality regarding public transport services. He highlighted overcrowding on buses and trams during peak commuting hours and called for increased trip frequencies. Güler also urged the municipality to expand the transport network to reach new residential areas, improve the safety and utility of stops for elderly and disabled citizens, and consider the economic conditions of students and retirees when determining transport fees.
