Turkish municipalities roll out free summer sports and safety programs for children
Municipal authorities across Turkey are launching a series of free summer activities aimed at children’s physical development and safety. In Düzce, lifeguard Merve Şimşek warned beachgoers about strong currents at Akçakoca and Ereğli, advising swimmers to stay parallel to the current and seek rescue assistance when needed.
In the education sector, Gümüşhane Sports High School began its 2026‑2027 talent exams, attracting 68 candidates for multistage physical tests, with results to be posted online. Meanwhile, Eskişehir’s Metropolitan Municipality inaugurated its 2026 Summer Sports Education program, offering free training in basketball, football, gymnastics, and other disciplines for thousands of children, plus fitness classes for adults.
The Osmangazi district organized open‑air film screenings for kids throughout the summer, featuring animated movies like “Efsane Takım Bilim Kahramanları.” In Mersin, the metropolitan municipality prepared a comprehensive summer schedule of free courses, workshops, science camps, and sports activities ranging from swimming to archery.
In Denizli’s Çameli district, the mayor announced free swimming courses for children at the Çameli Taş Konaklar pool, with plans to build an indoor swimming facility to provide year‑round lessons.
