Turkish city mayors announce extensive flood control and urban development projects

Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay detailed the city’s flood‑prevention programme, noting that two of three main collector lines are finished and that retention ponds at Bozkır and Buzlukbaşı are reducing runoff and recharging groundwater. He highlighted the challenges of climate‑induced extreme rainfall and the need to update the "Konya Model" for future storms.

Trabzon Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç outlined progress on dozens of projects across the province, including the South Ring Road, a new airport slated for a 10‑million‑passenger capacity, a rail‑system tender, and the Uzunkum recreation area. He gave completion percentages for market renovations, coastal parks, and housing upgrades, and announced upcoming tenders for several major infrastructure works. Genç also emphasized direct engagement with residents through neighbourhood visits and highlighted Turkey’s broader goals of economic and energy independence.
