Turkish Civil Engineers announce nationwide protests

The Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) Chamber of Civil Engineers has launched a campaign titled “Our Demand is Our Future” to address what representatives describe as the deepest economic crisis in the profession’s history.

Civil engineers across 81 provinces in Turkey are scheduled to hold simultaneous mass press conferences on Thursday, November 12, 2026. Local representatives in cities including Gaziantep, Muğla, Tokat, and Edirne have called for action to combat low wages, precarious working conditions, and the perceived devaluation of engineering expertise.

Representatives emphasize that the sidelining of scientific and technical merit poses a risk not only to the profession but also to public safety. They argue that ensuring professional merit and robust building inspections is essential for the security of infrastructure, including housing, schools, hospitals, and bridges, particularly in earthquake-prone regions.
