Turkish Coast Guard reports decline in irregular migration

Turkish Coast Guard operations in the Aegean Sea have led to a decrease in irregular migration numbers. In the first eight months of 2026, a total of 123 irregular migrants were rescued near the Aydın districts of Didim and Kuşadası.

This figure represents a significant decline compared to 2025, where high numbers were recorded in single months, such as 147 rescues in July and 152 in September. During the summer months of the previous year, monthly rescue figures frequently exceeded 100.

Coast Guard teams continue to conduct patrols and interventions to prevent irregular migration attempts via rubber boats and liferafts toward Greece. The authorities also noted that they have rescued migrants who were in distress after being pushed back by Greek elements in the Aegean Sea.
