Turkish Coast Guard rescues and detains 52 migrants near İzmir

The Turkish Coast Guard Command conducted two separate operations off the coast of the Menderes district in İzmir, resulting in the interception and rescue of 52 irregular migrants.

In the first operation, which began around 04:35 on August 13, a mobile coastal surveillance vehicle detected a suspicious rubber boat. Coast Guard boats intercepted the vessel and detained 21 irregular migrants attempting to leave the country illegally.

Shortly after, at approximately 07:35, authorities responded to a distress call regarding another rubber boat that had been drifting due to engine failure. Coast Guard teams successfully rescued 31 migrants from the vessel. All 52 individuals were transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management following medical checks on land.
