Turkish Coast Guard rescues three and detains 18 migrants off İzmir
On 16 June, the Turkish Coast Guard conducted two separate operations off the Aegean coast of İzmir. In the afternoon, a private boat with a motor failure drifted near Urla; the rescue vessel KB‑69 reached the scene and transferred the three passengers safely to Urla pier.
Later that night, at about 23:30 near Dikili, a Coast Guard patrol boat DENİZ‑101 spotted an inflatable craft carrying irregular migrants. The patrol vessel KB‑45 intercepted the boat and detained the 18 people attempting an illegal sea crossing.
Both incidents were handled by the Coast Guard’s rapid response units, highlighting ongoing efforts to manage emergency rescues and curb unauthorized migration in Turkish waters.
