Turkish beach resorts cut hotel prices amid Middle East conflict concerns

Tourism hubs in Türkiye and Cyprus are implementing significant hotel price discounts to combat weakening demand. According to data from Lighthouse, advertised accommodation prices for the August-October period have fallen by 5% in Antalya and 8% in Muğla province, which includes Bodrum, Marmaris, and Dalaman.

This downward pressure on prices is largely attributed to consumer anxiety regarding conflicts in the Middle East, which has led travelers to delay bookings until the last minute. While coastal regions face price cuts, Istanbul has seen a 5% increase in accommodation rates. Similar trends are observed in Cyprus, where prices fell by 4%, and Egypt, which saw a 10% decrease. In contrast, destinations in Greece, Italy, Spain, and Croatia have largely maintained or increased their rates.

Industry leaders, including Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy, noted that while these regions are geographically distant from conflict zones, they are perceived as being closer to the instability, impacting early-season reservations. Additionally, environmental concerns such as microplastic pollution in the Mediterranean have been identified as long-term threats to the region's tourism viability.
