Turkish student sentenced to 37 years for teacher murder

A 17‑year‑old high‑school student, identified as F. S. B., was sentenced by Istanbul’s Anadolu 2. Çocuk Ağır Ceza Mahkemesi to a total of 37 years 6 months in prison for killing teacher Fatma Nur Çelik and wounding two other teachers. The court classified the killing as "kadına karşı canavarca hisle kasten öldürme" and found the act premeditated, rejecting any mitigating circumstances. Because the defendant was a minor at the time of the crime, the imposed aggravated life sentence was reduced to 24 years, with an additional 13 years 6 months for the attacks on the other staff members.

The incident occurred on 2 March 2025 at Borsa İstanbul Mesleki Teknik Anadolu Lisesi in Çekmeköy, Istanbul, where the student entered the classroom and repeatedly stabbed the teacher before fleeing. The court also ordered the continuation of the defendant’s pre‑trial detention.
