Turkish courts hold hearings in separate cases involving deceased police officers

Legal proceedings are continuing in two separate cases involving the deaths of police officers in Turkey.

In Ankara, a trial is underway regarding the death of a police officer who died following an altercation at a vehicle inspection station on February 2. During the hearing at the Ankara 12th High Criminal Court, witnesses testified about the incident. One witness described the deceased as being in a state of emotional outburst, while another reported hearing insults and shouting. The prosecutor requested that the detention of defendant S.A. continue. The court has adjourned the case until December 8.

In Ümraniye, the first hearing has been held for the trial of three police officers regarding the death of officer Şeyda Yılmaz. The incident occurred after Yunus Emre Geçti, a suspect with 26 criminal records, escaped from a police station following his arrest for motorcycle theft. One defendant, Abdullah A., testified that he was in the restroom when the escape occurred and denied any negligence, suggesting that another officer had taken the initiative to allow the suspect's family to meet him. The court has postponed the trial until November 27.
