Turkey inspects nearly 8 million vehicles in first half of 2026

Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Ministry reported that 7,890,520 vehicles were inspected at 320 stations between January and June 2026. Of those, 5.8 million were found to have minor faults, 1.6 million serious faults, 71,000 unsafe, and 393,000 passed with no issues. The most common defects involved brakes, brake force, lighting, seat‑belt systems, rear‑view lamps and fuel‑system components. Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said the inspections aim to keep technically defective vehicles off the roads and help prevent over 100 000 traffic accidents annually.

The ministry’s TÜVTÜRK programme, run under public‑private cooperation, also highlighted its contribution to reducing carbon emissions and improving fuel efficiency through better vehicle maintenance.
