The Turkish-flagged bulk carrier MV Reyhan Sarı was attacked by Ukrainian drones on July 21 off the coast of Novorossiysk. The vessel was transporting coal from Russia's Taman Port to Trabzon, Turkey.

The attack resulted in the death of 54-year-old sailor Savaş Çakar and injured two other crew members. The victim's brother, journalist Abbas Çakar, has called for legal accountability, alleging that the munitions used in the strike may violate the Geneva Convention and constitute war crimes.

Controversy has escalated following an email sent to Abbas Çakar, which he claims originated from the official account of Robert Brovdi, the Commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces. In the message, Brovdi reportedly stated that the deceased sailor had 'chosen this path' by contributing to Russia's enrichment and had 'gotten what he deserved.'
