Turkish defense firms advance autonomous and hypersonic defense technologies
Turkish defense companies STM and ASELSAN are advancing domestic technologies to counter modern aerial and hypersonic threats.
STM has successfully conducted field tests for its new autonomous systems. These tests included the TUNGA-X hunter drone, which features radar-supported detection, tracking, and destruction capabilities against threat UAVs. Additionally, the company tested the integration of the TOGAN and NEST Smart Nest System for the continuous remote surveillance of critical facilities. Other tested capabilities included the integration of the Mini Gözcü UAV with the Smart Nest System and signal intelligence tasks using TOGAN/SpecDrone.
Meanwhile, ASELSAN is developing radar technologies specifically designed to detect and track hypersonic missiles. To overcome the challenges posed by high speeds, low radar cross-sections, and plasma effects created by atmospheric interaction, the company is working on Multi-Function Fire Control Radars. This approach focuses on the fusion of X-Band and L-Band radars to improve detection reliability against maneuvering hypersonic glide vehicles and cruise missiles.
