Turkish Ministry of Justice meets with February 6 earthquake victim families

Turkish Deputy Justice Minister Can Tuncay met with members of the 'Adalet Peşinde Aileleri Platformu' (Families Seeking Justice Platform), a group representing those who lost loved ones in the February 6 earthquakes. The meeting follows an 11-day protest held by the families in front of the Ministry of Justice to demand accountability regarding collapsed buildings and legal impunity.

The Ministry stated that the discussions focused on the demands and expectations of the families concerning ongoing investigations and prosecutions in the 11 affected provinces. To ensure more systematic tracking of legal processes stemming from natural disasters, the Ministry's Department of Natural Disasters and Accidents will closely monitor relevant files.

Platform representative Celal Gezer noted that while the meeting took place, the group felt the Ministry officials were not fully aware of specific legal irregularities they had documented. The families and the Ministry have agreed to meet again in one month to review progress and the implementation of requested adjustments.
